Erica Mills Toronto Artist
How would you describe your artistic style?
Bold and bright intuitive abstract paintings.
What’s the main inspiration for your art?
My artwork is unplanned and is often just my emotions and feelings put into action. I’m often inspired by my busy life full of travel, music, adventure, and my people.
What is the biggest goal you try to achieve with your art?
I want my art to be unscripted and a reflection of true feeling. I’m quite a happy and emotional person and I want my work to evoke authentic emotion.
What’s your favourite thing about being an abstract artist?
The fact that I get to do what I truly love and what makes me happy.
Why abstract art and not other styles?
I love working from the heart, with no rules or constricts.
What’s one thing people might not know about you and/or your art journey so far?
I’ve studies most mediums and my first love is drawing/doodling.
Did you always know you’d be an artist or how has your art journey progressed?
I always was an artist…the fact that I could do it for work never seemed possible but I’m overjoyed to have my passion as my job.
In your opinion, what’s the most important personal characteristic needed to embark on a career as an artist?
A passion for creating paired with worth ethic because you need to work hard to actually sell the magic you create.
What advice would you give up and coming abstract artists?
Make a business plan in terms of how to get your artwork out into the world.
What’s your most fulfilling and enjoyable experience as an artist so far?
Travelling with my eldest son for a gallery show in Milan, Italy.
What do you love most about abstract art?
Where do you see yourself and your art in 5 years?
Still doing what I’m doing, and travelling the world with my family while doing it. I just want the ability to keep painting as much as possible as it brings me so much joy and I hope it brings that feeling to others as well.
