We’re excited to introduce you to Sari Beattie, a Canadian abstract artist based in Ottawa, ON. Learn about Sari and see more of her art below.
How would you describe your artistic style?
It always impresses me when I view a piece that has the proper balance of colours and compositions but still leaves you with a sense of wonder. This is how I would describe my artistic style.
What’s the main inspiration for your art?
I become inspired by other works of beauty around me, which impels me to capture and interpret new pieces in my own way. I’m mainly inspired by different colour palettes and compositions by other artists and things I see in nature.
What is the biggest goal you try to achieve with your art?
I try to show in abstract terms how a completely balanced work can still include asymmetry.
What’s your favourite thing about being an abstract artist?
I like the fact that I am free to express myself without being confined to using realistic imagery.
Why abstract art and not other styles? Have you always created abstract art or did you start out creating other styles?
I’ve tried a few other artistic avenues along the way, but abstract art really stuck with me because I feel like I am able to express my true inner self without any restrictions.
If you could describe your art in three words, what would they be?
Brilliant Asymmetrical Balance
What’s one thing people might not know about you and/or your art journey so far?
I will admit that I have an inner restlessness about me which is one of the motivating factors that drives me to paint. I do not feel a sense of inner balance until I begin to achieve a balance with my artwork.
Did you always know you’d be an artist or how has your art journey progressed?
My story and journey are quite simple. It isn’t flashy, but it is very dear to my heart. I have always been creatively minded as a young girl and I have felt an inner need to share my creativity with the world. I constantly have artistic projects on the go and am always looking for the next new thing or techniques I want to try out.
In your opinion, what’s the most important personal characteristic needed to embark on a career as an artist?
I would have to say one has to have an open mind, be very determined, and have great fortitude.
