Maria Martin Switzerland Abstract Artist
What is the biggest goal you try to achieve with your art?
My goal is to infuse the painting with vitality through colors, forms and surfaces, thereby offering nourishment for the viewer’s mind and soul.
What’s your favorite thing about being an abstract artist?
What I love most about being an abstract artist is the freedom it gives me to express myself without constraints. With abstract art, there are no rules or boundaries to confine my creativity. I can let my imagination run wild, exploring new ideas and experimenting with different techniques. It’s a liberating feeling to create something that is open to interpretation, sparking unique emotions and connections with each viewer.
Why did you choose to pursue abstract art and not other styles?
Abstract art resonates with me because of its boundless freedom and ability to evoke emotions and interpretations in unique ways. While I’ve always been drawn to art, my journey began with experimenting in various styles, including more representational or figurative approaches. However, as I continued to explore my creativity, I found myself increasingly drawn to abstraction. It offers a limitless canvas for self-expression, allowing me to tap into emotions, concepts, and experiences in ways that resonate deeply with me and with viewers. So while I appreciate other styles for their own merits, abstract art feels like the most authentic and fulfilling path for my artistic expression.
What’s one thing people might not know about you and your art journey so far?
One aspect of my art journey that people may not know is how deeply I engage with my inner world. Meditation and introspection play significant roles in my creative process, guiding me to explore the depths of my emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Through this inner exploration, I find inspiration and clarity, allowing me to infuse my art with authenticity and depth. It’s a journey of self-discovery that continuously enriches my artistic expression and fosters a deeper connection with viewers.
Did you always know you’d be an artist or how has your art journey progressed?
Absolutely, I always had a strong inclination towards art, but my journey as an artist has been marked by intermittent breaks due to changing life circumstances. Despite these interruptions, my passion for art has remained steadfast, guiding me back to the canvas time and time again. Each pause in my artistic journey has been an opportunity for growth and reflection, shaping me into the artist I am today.
In your opinion, what’s the most important personal characteristic needed for a career as an artist?
In my opinion, one of the most important personal characteristics needed to embark on a career as an artist is the belief in oneself and the conviction that pursuing what brings joy is worthwhile. It’s about having the resilience to persevere through challenges, the courage to trust in one’s own creative vision, and the passion to continue honing one’s craft despite setbacks. This belief in oneself serves as a guiding light through the ups and downs of the artistic journey, empowering artists to stay true to their passions and aspirations.
What advice would you give up and coming abstract artists?
Create as much as you can, regardless of others’ opinions – it’s your journey of self-expression and growth.
