What’s the main inspiration for your art?

I paint feelings, moments, impressions, light…

What is the biggest goal you try to achieve with your art?

To communicate something unseen, to create understanding.

What’s your favourite thing about being an abstract artist?

I think abstraction is just a really pure form of expression.

Why abstract art and not other styles? Have you always created abstract art or did you start out creating other styles?

I can do lots of things, but they just don’t hold my interest. Abstraction is different, it’s a chance to create something new.

What’s one thing people might not know about you and/or your art journey so far?

It hasn’t been easy.

Did you always know you’d be an artist or how has your art journey progressed?

I’ve always hoped to be an artist. It wasn’t the prescribed path but I have made my way here on my own time.

In your opinion, what’s the most important characteristic needed to embark on a career as an artist?

A sense of self, authentic and original.

What advice would you give up and coming abstract artists?

You may be tempted to paint like other people, but it’s better to paint like yourself.

What’s your most fulfilling and enjoyable experience as an artist so far?

My residency at MOCA Toronto was a dream. And I’m in the permanent collection of a Big 3 Tech company, I’d love some more of that.

Where do you see yourself and your art in 5 years?

I don’t know about five years, but I’d like my work to end up in museums – I want to communicate on that scale.

What do you love most about abstract art?

Abstract art is freedom.
